About

Many researchers are concerned about the generalizability of their research findings in cross-cultural, cross-national settings. Many pursue research topics in a single national environment and wonder if their research results would be confirmed in different contexts.

In 1993, a small number of researchers from across several countries, whose major research interests focus on the internationalization of firms, decided to collaborate in future projects. With the leadership of Professor S. Tamer Cavusgil, then Michigan State University CIBER Founding Executive Director, and Professor Catherine N. Axinn of Ohio University (an MSU alum), an informal research alliance was then formed, known as the Consortium for International Marketing Research (CIMaR).

We encourage researchers to submit their work on the following topic areas, though other topics are also welcome:

● digitalization of international marketing
● responsible and sustainable marketing in the quasi-post covid pandemic
● ethics, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility
● climate change and the impact on international trade
● sustainable distribution and logistics in international marketing
● international marketing strategy – consumer and business perspectives
● global value chains and internationalization
● emerging market challenges and opportunities in international marketing
● entrepreneurial perspectives in international marketing
● marketing mix management in disrupted times

We recommend papers and abstracts to follow the presented submissions guidelines. They are not mandatory, but recommended:

Full paper:
• Papers must be fewer than 10,000 words inclusive of all materials, including appendices and references. Papers exceeding these limits may be returned to the author(s).
• Papers must follow the APA 7.0 Style Guide
• All submissions must be in English.
• Each submission must include an abstract, not to exceed 200 words, that summarizes the manuscript or panel discussion.
• Use Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced, 1-inch (2.5 cm) margin all around, and 8.5″ × 11″ page setting. References may be single-spaced.

• Extended abstracts must be fewer than 3,000 words inclusive of all materials, including appendices and references. Papers exceeding these limits may be returned to the author(s).

Mission

As an informal, scholarly network, CIMaR consortium members have agreed to undertake joint research projects in order to make significant contributions to the knowledge and practice of international marketing. The extent of collaboration includes:

  • Development of research agendas
  • Conceptualization and construct development
  • Instrument design, and data collection
  • Analysis and jointly-authored works

In addition to annual meetings to discuss and/or initiate joint research, CIMaR members also meet at professional meetings such as the Academy of International Business and the American Marketing Association, and extend invitations to visit each other’s campuses. In addition, they arrange for their doctoral students to study at members’ schools.
